Elbert County Remembers 9/11

September 12, 2013

A great ceremony yesterday afternoon on Elberton’s square, as our community stopped for a few minutes to honor those who lost their lives during the tragic events that occurred on September 11, 2001.

Mike Fernandez, speaking yesterday, gave the overview of the events that took place.

Nearly three thousand people died that day.

“Of that number 2,749 died in the New York City, 184 died at the Pentagon, and forty died in Pennsylvania at the crash of Flight 93”, described Fernandez. “We all remember.”

Towards the end of the ceremony, Josh Massey of Dewy Rose Baptist Church delivered the closing prayer for the event, and in his prayer he mentioned all emergency services personnel and American troops.

The ECMS chorus closed out yesterday’s event with the singing of “Give Us Hope”, which is a community sing-along selected by Sister Cities International in New York.
