In just over a week, Elbert County’s solid waste fees are going to see an increase.
Those increases were approved during the February meeting of the Elbert County Board of Commissioners.
The county’s blue trash bags will increase to two dollars each, and the yellow bags are increasing to one dollar each.
Also being increased is the county’s tipping fee at the transfer station. The new rate will be fifty-two dollars per ton, which is a four dollar per ton increase.
During a work session back in February, County Administrator Bob Thomas explained why both the bags and tipping fees had to be increased.
“If you are going to increase the tipping fees, which the city pays, then you have to balance out the county residents with the city residences”, explain Thomas. “You have to treat people equal in the city and in the unincorporated areas, so that is the reason for increasing both of them.”
The new rates go into effect later this month on April 11th.
