Elbert County Teen Remains in Serious Condition after Being Hit by Train

An Elbert County teen remains in serious to critical condition after being struck by a train this past Friday night.

According to Elbert County EMS Director Chuck Almond, the 911 Center received a call around 7:05pm that evening saying a 16-year-old juvenile had been hit by a train.

The conductor of the train, according to the call sheet for the incident, said the juvenile was walking on the tracks, which led to him being struck.

Almond says the accident occurred in the area between Williams Street and Seaboard Street.

The victim was treated on scene by Elbert County EMS, Elberton Firefighters, and first responders, but had to be air lifted to a trauma center, in this case Greenville Hospital.

The victim’s identity has not been released at this time.
