The Elbert County Blue Devils travelled up to Jackson County High School to take on the Panthers Friday.
The Lady Devils pulled off a victory to get to 5-3 in region play. It was a tight game until the Lady Devils gained the upper hand in the fourth. In the first the teams would be tied at 8 but the Lady Devil would take a 11-8 lead into the second quarter. There would be little offense in the second as the Ladies would only score 2 points and the teams would go into the half tied at 13.
The third quarter would see the Lady Devils take a three point 20-17 lead midway through. However, the Lady Panthers would take the lead with a 27-25 score to head into the final quarter. The game would remain tight halfway through the fourth but the Lady Devils would have a two point advantage. The final minute would see the Lady Devils take a firm grip of the game and would finish with a 47-38 victory. Jimerra Hill lead the Ladies Devils offense with 13 points and Tiawanna Griffin was named player of the game.
The Blue Devils again found themselves in a tight ball game but pulled off the victory to get to 7-1 in region action. The Devils would strike first in the game but would be down at the end of a low scoring first quarter, 10-7. Jackson County would control the second quarter and would hold a 22-18 advantage to head into halftime.
The third quarter would see the Devils get back in the game and take the lead for the first time since the beginning of the game. The Blue Devils would hold a 5 point, 37-32 lead to head into the final quarter. Devils would allow the Panthers to stay in the game and with .25 left the Panthers would tie the game at 50. However, Tarveil Fortson would have none of it and would sink a 3 point buzzer beater for the 53-50 victory. Fortson was named player of the game and finished with 16 total points.
