Elbert Man Faces 42 Counts of Possession of Firearm by Convicted Felon

An Elbert County man is behind bars after two search warrants were carried out by the Elbert County Sheriff’s Office.

On Tuesday, around 7:00pm the Elbert County Sheriff’s Office executed two search warrants at two homes off of Gin Branch Road in Elberton, Georgia.

During the search of the homes, a total of forty-two firearms were located and seized.

Three of those firearms were confirmed stolen from South Carolina and North Carolina.

As a result of the search warrants, David Martin Benton faces forty-two counts of Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon, as well as three counts of Theft by Receiving Stolen Property.

The investigation has gone as far as Anderson County, SC where a search warrant was also executed, and Benton is potentially facing more charges from Anderson County.

In a press release from the Elbert County Sheriff’s Office, special thanks were extended to all the agencies that assisted in the investigation.

After his arrest, Benton was transported to the Elbert County Detention Center, bond was denied at his hearing yesterday afternoon.
