Elberton Man Arrested After Purse Snatching Incident

Three men were arrested Wednesday evening by Elbert County Sheriff Deputies after a reported robbery incident.

Elbert County Sheriff Barry Haston described what happened.

“Deputies responded to Ingles Grocery store after a female reported that a male suspect had robbed her by snatching her purse out of her shopping cart”, explained Sheriff Haston. “Deputies were able to quickly located the vehicle a short distance from the scene that the suspect was seen leaving in.”

The vehicle was pulled over shortly after words. There were four male occupants in the vehicle, three of which were arrested. As a deputy approached the vehicle the victim’s pocketbook was located in the floorboard.

During further investigation, suspected crystal meth, smoking devices, and syringes were located in the vehicle.

The victim was able to identify the man who had stolen her purse. 36 year old Roger Smith of Royston, GA was charged with robbery, possession of methamphetamines, and possession of drug related objects.

The driver, 37 year old Tony Richardson of an Earnest Brown Road address was also arrested on charges of possession of methamphetamines, possession of drug related objects, DUI of drugs, and other traffic offenses. The other man, 30 year old Terrence Burney of a Ruckersville Road residence was charged with open container.

All three were transported to the Elbert County Detention Center after they were arrested.
