An Elbert County man is behind bars after have been caught driving a vehicle which he stole earlier this week.
According to Elbert County Sheriff Melvin Andrews, the sheriff’s office received a call on Tuesday about a stolen Chevrolet Silverado.
He says that it was the Hart County Sheriff’s Office that found the vehicle, and behind the wheel was 44-year-old Douglas Leland Hampton, of a Hartwell Highway address.
Sheriff Andrews says that Hampton faces a laundry list of charges.
“Mr. Hampton was arrested on charges of Theft by Taking Felony, DUI of Drugs, Possession of Methamphetamines, Possession of Drug Related Objects, Possession of Tools for Commission of a Crime, and Driving While License Suspended”, said Andrews.
According to the press release, there was another arrest in the case.
Sheriff Andrews said, “Investigation also led to the arrest of Erica Timesha Sims with charges of Possession of Methamphetamines, and Possession of Drug Related Objects.”
Assisting in the arrest and recovery of the vehicle was the Hart County Sheriff’s Office, and Sheriff Andrews said he appreciated the help.
“We appreciated the help of the Hart County Sheriff’s Office”, expressed Andrews, “We also appreciate the help of the Department of Corrections, and everyone else involved for their assistance in the arrest and recovery of the vehicle.”
Both Hampton and Sims were transported to the Elbert County Detention Center to await bond hearings after their arrests.
