An Elberton man remains behind bars after being arrested on several drug charges last week.
According to Special Operations Officer Michael Davis, information was received on drugs being dealt, which led officers to Timmothy Knite Thornton.
Officers tried to initiate a traffic stop, and according to reports, Thornton began to try and elude police.
During the chase, reports indicate that Thornton ran at least two stop signs before officers were able to stop the vehicle.
Davis says during a search of the vehicle, a large quantity of marijuana was found.
“We were able to locate several bags of Marijuana inside the vehicle, and it was a substantial amount at that”, said Davis.
Thornton is charged with one count each of Possession of a Controlled Substance, Possession with Intent to Distribute, Use of a Communication Device to Facilitate a Drug Transaction, Fleeing or Attempting to Elude Police Officer, and Failure to Obey Stop Sign.
Thornton remains in custody at the Elbert County Detention Center, bond as been set, but not yet posted.
