The Elbert 12-County Fair gets underway later today, and the Elberton Police Department is reminding fair goers this year about some changes that have been made, most notably with the parking situation.

Special Operations Officer Macon Clark with the Elberton Police Department says the Georgia Department of Transportation has made the area on North Oliver Street from Clairmont Avenue to Elmhurst Drive a no parking zone.

“It’s a safety concern, I know a couple of years ago we had an incident where some children had gotten hit, and that raises concerns for us because we are out there to keep everybody safe so they can have a good time”, said Clark.”

Even though there will be no parking allowed in the area, Clark still urges motorists to use caution through the area.

“There will still be a ton of foot traffic, as the fair draws a pretty big crowd each year”, he explained. “So please still exercise caution when driving through that area.”

The fair this year begins today and will run all this week up until Sunday, October 13th.
