Thanksgiving is here, and people will be out on the roadways traveling to their respective Thanksgiving gatherings.

Elberton Police Chief Mark Welsh said his department will be out in force making sure the highways are safe for those traveling.

“As we enter into the traditional season, we want everyone to have a good and safe Thanksgiving”, said Chief Welsh. “Please drive carefully; the officers are going to be out in force trying to keep the highways safe for you.”

Chief Welsh also had some advice for those who plan on hitting the stores Thanksgiving night and on Friday.

“As you are out shopping, please be aware of your surroundings. Make sure you don’t leave anything out that you don’t want stolen. Also, be sure to protect your credit and debit card information, and just have a happy and safe Thanksgiving”, said Chief Welsh.

The Thanksgiving holiday travel period is one of the busiest travel times in the state of Georgia and across the nation.

On average there are nearly three thousand accidents on Georgia roads during this time period.

From all of us here at WSGC Radio, please be safe while traveling, and while shopping as well.
