Back to back successful fundraisers for the Elberton Sister City program after this past weekend.
Elberton Sister City Chairman Tom Evans said the Burger for Bucks fundraiser went really well, as it was held in conjunction with another event.
“We had a really good turnout, especially since that same day they had a fitness festival at A & D Cycles”, said Evans. “It was a good experience for the Japanese group because that got to see what we do to raise money for the sister city program.”
As Evans mentioned, the exchange students from Japan were in attendance at the event, and they got a special treat, as they met a former student from Japan who participated in the program.
“We had a past exchange student from one of the first years, he had been working with a company in California, and he wanted came to Elberton to meet the group while they were here”, explained Evans. “He got to meet them and they got to meet him, and they were surprised that there was somebody from their hometown working in California.”
According to Evans, the group sold between two and three hundred sack lunches in the two hour time frame that they were set up in.
On the docket for the exchange students tomorrow is a tour of the Bubba Burger facility, a tour of Piedmont College, and to cap off the day, the group will do some tubing in Helen, Ga.
