A shocker in the Granite Bowl this Friday, as the Knights of Evans spoiled homecoming for the Elbert County Blue Devils.
After splitting their first road games against Buford and Cedar Shoals, Elbert County looked to build some momentum heading into region play with a win over Evans on Homecoming in the Granite Bowl.
Things were looking good early as Mecole Hardman did what Mecole Hardman does, as he escaped a near sack to break out for Elbert County’s first touchdown of the game.
That would be the trend as the Blue Devils soared out to a commanding 31-10 lead, but Evans did not go away.
On the back of several Elbert County fumbles, the Knights climbed their way back into the game until all of a sudden it was a tied contest at 31-31.
Evans got the ball late and drove down the field enough to give their kicker a shot at a miracle come from behind win.
The kick was good, and the Knights took the lead 34-31 and would hang on to edge out the Blue Devils
The Blue Devils will get some time to reflect on this game, as they head into their bye week before beginning region play next Friday night on the road at East Jackson.
105.3 WSGC will bring you coverage of that game beginning at 7:00pm, kick off is set to follow at 7:30pm.
