Final American Red Cross Blood Drive in EC Coming up in Bowman

December 12, 2013

The American Red Cross is in the full swing of their 2013-2014 winter blood drive campaign, and the organization is back in Elbert County one more time in 2013.

On Monday, December 16th, the American Red Cross will host yet another blood drive in Elbert County.

Red Cross Spokesperson Kristin Stancil says that this is a time of the year when historically, the blood supply decreases, while demand remains the same.

“During the winter months, starting in November and going to January, we see fewer donors because people get really busy with holiday activities and holiday shopping,” said Stancil.  “However, the need for blood continues.”

Rehoboth Baptist Church in Bowman, GA will be the site of the blood drive.

Stancil says giving blood is easy and adds that someone can donate blood every 56 days.

She does say that there are some basic requirements that a person must meet before they can donate blood.

“You must be 17 years of age, or 16 with parental consent, you must weigh 110 pounds and be in good health,” said Stancil.

The blood drive at Rehoboth Baptist Church begins at 3:00pm in the afternoon, and will last until 7:00pm.

For more information on donating blood or other blood drives in the area, call the American Red Cross at 1-800-733-2767 or go online to www.redcrossblood.org.
