October is National Domestic Violence Awareness Month, and the Northeast Georgia Council on Domestic Violence is doing its best to get the word out in our area.
The council is coming off a successful silent and live auction fundraising event on September 26th in Hart County.
“We had a great turnout as this was the first year we had this, and we grossed over $4,800 that evening”, said Cleary. “Which I feel is a really great turnout.
Council Board Member and Treasurer Henley Cleary says they are going to continue to step up their efforts to get more information out to the Elbert and Franklin County communities.
“There is not visibility of the shelter itself that is totally a secret, but we seem to have more information around Hartwell and Hart County, however we are still trying to do a better job in Elbert and Franklin Counties”, said Cleary.
Part of that effort will be to attend local events throughout the month in Elbert, Hart, and Franklin Counties.
Cleary says they have a busy month ahead of them in that regard.
“We have on October 12th the Royston Fall Festival, on October 24th we have the Pumpkin Festival in Elberton, October 26th is Depot Days in Hartwell, and on October 31st the Monster Mash will be held in Hartwell, GA”, she said. “It’s an annual event, and last year we had over three thousand people attend, and we are hoping for even more this year.”
She says they council is still looking for board members and volunteers all the time.
Those interested in becoming a board member or volunteering for the organization can contact Katherine Reusing, who is the Director of the Council, at (706) 377-4141.
