The week that Elbert County fans have been anticipating for nearly a year is finally here, that is the first week of the high school football season.
Elbert County Blue Devil Head Coach Sid Fritts says his team is ready to forget last season.
“You can see their urgency and their desire to put everything in the past, and put everything forward to get better”, said Fritts. “They have worked extremely hard in the off-season and in the pre-season.”
Fritts said he feels good about this year’s team, saying that he has a good group of players, and more notably, the most seniors he has ever had on any team he has coached.
“We got a good group of seniors, by far the largest group of seniors I have ever had. This is exciting from the stand point that they have made it four years through the program”, said Fritts. “There is no substitute for senior leadership, and there is no substitute for their experience.”
The expectations for this year’s team? Fritts gives a pretty direct answer to the question.
“I expect them to play hard, I expect them to compete, I expect them to win, and I expect them to understand what they have to do after a win or loss to come back the next week and get the win”, said Fritts.
The Blue Devils season begins with a road trip to Buford, GA to take on the Buford Wolves this Friday night.
