While many of us have been enjoying the summer, area teachers have spent a good part of it preparing for the next school year.

Students in Franklin County go back to beginning today.

Franklin County School Superintendent Dr. Ruth Odell said teachers have been working hard all summer to welcome their new students.

“We’ve been working all summer to get ready for the first day of school,” said Franklin County School Superintendent Dr. Ruth O’dell. “We’ve had teachers in the central office to work on unit planning and to make sure their units are planned out for the year. Teachers work all summer as do principles and central office leaders.”

Odell said there was an increase in requests from out of county students to transfer to a Franklin County school, but she said most of those were denied.

At the high school, students will continue to work around the construction of the new central core building again this school year.

Work began last summer on the project and students are going to some classes in temporary mobile classrooms.
