Georgia DOT announces a public information open house detour meeting to discuss the proposed detour necessary for reconstruction of the State Route 368 bridge over Pickens Creek in Elberton.
The open house is scheduled for Thursday, November 8, 2012 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at New Bethel United Methodist Church located at 2708 Rock Bridge Road in Elberton.
Georgia DOT engineers will be available to discuss the proposed project and detour details. There will be no formal presentation.
The existing bridge was built in 1941. The detour will allow construction to move much faster and cost much less than if traffic continued to use the bridge while a parallel structure was built. The detour is expected to be in place for approximately six months.
The plans will be available online at the DOT website at www.dot.ga.gov. On the home page choose “Information Center” next choose “Public Outreach” and select the project’s County and choose go. A list of DOT projects in that County will appear and you can select the one you’d like to view.
The detour route will utilize Georgia and South Carolina State Routes. Traffic will be routed from SR 368 to Coldwater Creek Road to Georgia State Route 77 Spur to GA SR 181/South Carolina State Route 187 to SC SR 81 to SC SR 184 and back to GA SR 368. The detour route is 33.3 miles long.
