Georgia DOT Begins Resurfacing Work in Oconee County

The Georgia Department of Transportation has begun resurfacing work in Oconee County.

All four lanes of State Route 24/Macon Highway from its intersection with State Route 15/US 441 to Thomas Farm Road will be resurfaced.

Crews will close one lane of State Route 24 to remove damaged asphalt and resurface the roadway from 7:30am until 6:00pm as weather allows.

According to the Georgia DOT, this section of State Route 24 was last resurfaced in 1972, the pavement surface is damage and needs replacing.

The $1.3 million dollar project was awarded to E.R. Snell Contracting of Snellville, Georgia. Estimated completion date is set for July 31st, 2013.

E.R. Snell is also handling the resurfacing of State Routes 368 and 172 in Elbert County, those projects have yet to be started.
