Georgia DOT Suspending Lane Closures for Christmas Travel Period

December 20, 2013

With Christmas Day falling on a Wednesday, the Georgia Department of Transportation is expected more travelers than usual during the holiday week and weekend.

The good news is that the Georgia DOT announced that all scheduled and ongoing construction related lane closures on interstates and major state routes will be suspended, making traveling a bit safer across the state.

Lane closures will be suspended beginning at 5:00pm today, and extending until 5:00am on Tuesday, January 2nd, 2014.

Some work however, may continue on lesser-traveled state and local roads, and motor vehicle accident or emergency maintenance closures can occur on any route.

Those traveling can check traffic and condition maps on www.georgia-navigator.com, or call 511 on any phone for free, real time traffic information.
