Hart County authorities are asking for the public’s help to find and arrest the suspect or suspects responsible for a string of burglaries over the past two weeks.
The five burglaries took place from October 8th through October 19th in all parts of the county, according to Hart County Sheriff Mike Cleveland
“All the investigators’ top priority right now is trying to find a lead in these five burglaries,” Cleveland said. “They range from Reed Creek and Shoal Creek in the northern part of the county all the way to Vanna in the southern part. Most of what they appear to be looking for is jewelry and cash. They will take other stuff, but it seems like they’re going in and heading straight for the bedrooms and grabbing the jewelry boxes.”
According to the incident reports, items stolen also include firearms, as well as electronics and other household items.
In one case, around $1,600 in office equipment was also taken from a local business.
Cleveland said in each case, the suspects kick in a back door to gain entrance.
After a fairly quiet summer, Cleveland said it appears burglaries are on the rise again in his county.
He encourages people to call his office if they see anything out of the ordinary in their neighborhood or community.
“We knew around Christmas time they (burglaries) always pick up, but this was premature and we weren’t expecting this,” he said. “If you see anything in your neighborhood, such as a car you don’t feel right about, call us and let us check it out. We’d rather check out something that’s legit, than skip over something that is not.”
The Hart County Sheriff’s office number is 706-376-3114.
