Not the best way to ring in the New Year for a Hart County man arrested in Elbert County on drug charges.
According to Elbert County Sheriff Melvin Andrews, just after midnight on December 31st, deputies with his office conducted a traffic stop on North Broad Street in Bowman, GA.
Andrews said the man arrested was a passenger in a vehicle that was speeding.
“The officer was running radar, he clocked the vehicle coming in at a high rate of speed”, said Andrews. “He was a passenger inside of the vehicle.”
During the stop, Andrews said the deputy conducting the stop noticed that 22-year-old Michoe Fiez Alexander of a Clay Brown Road residence in Hartwell, GA appeared to be acting unusually nervous, which prompted the deputy to conduct a search of Alexander.
“He was very nervous showing signs of being overly nervous. The officer asked him to step out of the car, at which time the officer noticed his hand lay something in the seat with white powder in it”, explained Andrews. “With the officer’s training, he was familiar with what he expected that to be.”
Alexander has been charged with felony counts of Possession of Cocaine with Intent to Distribute, Obstruction of an Office, and Interference with Government Property.
Andrews says further charges may be pending, as Alexander was on probation at the time of his arrest.
Alexander was transported to the Elbert County Detention Center after his arrest, where he remains behind bars.
Currently a bond amount has not been set for Alexander.
