House Fire Off of North Oliver Street Over the Weekend Being Investigated

March 11, 2014

Over the weekend, Elberton Police responded to a house fire on North Oliver Street.

Officers blocked off a small portion of North Oliver while the fire burned the residence to allow fire crews to perform their jobs.

According to the police report, a woman approached one of the officers and said the person who lived at the home set the house on fire while burning some pampas grass growing along side the home.

The woman reported that she told the home’s occupant that the house was going to catch fire if he burned the grass, which turned out to indeed be the cause of the blaze.

Further investigation is expected to take place regarding the fire.
