Lady Devils Move on To Region Championship, Devils Fall

February 14, 2013

The Blue Devil basketball squads travelled to East Jackson for the second round of the region tournament yesterday.

The Lady Devils took on the Oconee County Lady Warriors in the second round for a chance to move on to the region championship. The Lady Devils had a 9-8 lead at the end of the first quarter. The beginning of the second quarter was slow offensively but the Lady Devils managed to widen the gap in their lead with a 16-12 score by the end of the first half. Cyiarra Hill was leading the team with six points and Keke Glaze had four. Coming into the third quarter the Ladies gave up little ground as they only allowed five points to take the score to 25-17 at the end of three. In the fourth the Lady Devils extended their lead to 11 at one point but a last ditch effort from the Lady Warriors pulled them within four; however, the Lady Devils held the Lady Warriors off for a 40-36 victory to move on to the region championship. Keke Glaze led the team in scoring with 10 points and was named Tri-County Technical College Player of the Game and Cyiarra Hill had four points to help propel the Lady Devils into victory.

The Blue Devils got off to bad start against the Franklin County Lions as they where down 22-9 at the end of the first quarter. The Devils continued to struggle and allow the Lions to control the game in the second quarter and where down 33-21 going into the half. Ben Routh led the team in scoring with six points and Jay Jay moon had five. The third quarter proved to not be any better for the Devils as the hole they were dug into was very deep. At the end of three the Lions had a fourteen point, 48-34 lead. It was an all around bad game for the Blue Devils who lost 68-50 and lost for the third time to Franklin County this year. Ben Routh led the Devils with 13 points and was named Tri-County Technical College Player of the Game.

The Lady Devils will be back in action for the Region Tournament Championship on Saturday, February 16th back in East Jackson at 7:00. Though the Blue Devils are out of the running for the region championship they will be in the Consulation Game on Saturday at 5:30.
