Your Elbert County Lady Diamond Devils took on the Madison County Lady Red Raiders on Monday, September 24. The Lady Red Raiders have been dominating this season with a 25-5 record and 8-0 in their region play. Madison continued their dominance against Elbert in a 12-3 victory.
Devyn Terry would start pitching for the Lady Devils. The first inning started out promising for the Lady Devils after good defense put down the first three batters.
Terry would lead off the bottom of the 1st with a double and would be moved to third on a sacrifice bunt from Susie Dye. Kacie Oakley would bat in Terry for a 1-0 lead.
The 2nd inning would prove to be devastating for the Lady Devils. Devyn Terry would take a hit back up the middle in the knee taking her out of the game and the Freshman Olivia Ruff would come in. The Lady Red Raiders would score three runs off three errors and a hit would score two runs making the score 5-1. The 3rd inning would see another run scored for Madison and three up, three down for the Lady Devils.
In the 4th inning the Lady Raiders would lead off with a home run and tack on another three runs making the score 10-1. Elbert would be able to tack on two runs in 4th after Kacie Oakley and Amelia Moon were able to make it home; which would take the score to 10-3 to keep the game going. The 5th and 6th innings would be scoreless for both teams.
In the top of the 7th Freshman Kallie Craft would come into pitch for the Lady Devils to get some experience. The team would get two outs but again have trouble closing out the inning and give up two more runs before getting the third out. The Lady Devils would get runners on in the bottom of the 7th but would not get any runs in.
The final score Madison 12 Elbert 3. The Lady Devils will look to get ready for their region tournament which starts on October 1st in Jefferson.
