Lady Diamond Devils Survive To Fight Another Day

The Elbert County Lady Diamond Devil Softball team was back in action for their region tournament in Jefferson, GA.

The Lady Devils lost their first game to Jackson County 6-5. Olivia Rough would start pitching for Elbert and the Lady Devils would take an early 1-0 lead; however, Elbert would give up 5 runs to the Panthers. The Lady Devils would battle back in the top of the 7th with a pair of 2 run homeruns from Susie Dye and Kacie Oakley to tie up the game at 5-5. The bottom of the 7th would see a walk off homerun win the game for Jackson County and the Lady Devil would take their first loss of the tournament.

The second game the Lady Devils would take on Hart County in an elimination game. Devyn Terry would start pitching for the Lady Devils. The top of the first would see 3 runs given up to Hart but Elbert would answer with a run of their own in the bottom of the first to make the score 3-1.

Kacie Oakley would bat 2 runs home in the bottom of the second to tie up the game at 3-3 and the Lady Devils would tack on another run to take the lead 4-3. The teams would be scoreless until a wild pitch would tie up the game for Hart in the top of the 4th at 4. The Devils would be able to get their lead back in the bottom of the 4th to take a 1 run lead.

The Lady Devils, still struggling to close out innings, allowed a run in with 2 outs in the top of the 6th to tie the game at 5. However, after the Bulldogs walked Devyn Terry in the bottom of the 6th, pinch runner Paige Blackmon would make her way home to give the lead back to the Lady Devils. Elbert would hold on in the 7th for the win.

The Lady Diamond Devils will be back in action October 4th at 5:00 to take on Oconee County. That game will be aired on 1400-AM the Voice of Elberton and 96.5 FM
