A crowd of over two hundred and fifty people were in attendance for the Old Rock Gym’s renaming and dedication ceremony this past Saturday.

Numerous speakers were on hand to share their memories of the Rock Gym, and amongst the speakers in attendance, was Elberton City Mayor Larry Guest, who issued a proclamation for the renovated Rock Gym.

“And whereas the auditorium Amory has been renovated in the beginning stages of a total renovation project as the Elberton/Elbert County Conference Center and Museum by the Elbert County Historical Society”, proclaimed Guest. “Therefore I, Larry Guest, do issue my proclamation that Saturday October 13th, 2012 be officially dedicated as Elberton/Elbert County Conference Center Day.”

From this day on, the Rock Gym has been renamed to the Elberton/Elbert County Conference Center and Museum.

More work is still required before the renovation project is completed, but so far the building features a new ventilation system, brand new hard wood floors, and a new stage in the auditorium section of the building.

According to Dr. Joyce Davis, who is the Co-Chair on the Rock Gym Steering Committee, nearly a decade of work has gone into the renovation project.
