A Lavonia woman is behind bars charged with murder in the death of her two-month baby last month.
On Tuesday, agents with the Georgia Bureau of Investigation and Franklin County Sheriff’s investigators arrested 21-year old Cheyenne Nicole Burtch of 10234 Highway 59, Lavonia.
Burtch is charged with Aggravated Battery and Murder.
On January 21st, Franklin County Sheriff County Stevie Thomas said 911 received a call about a baby not breathing right.
“The unit responded to a 911 call,” Thomas said. “The mother said her baby was not responding and was not breathing right. My deputy actually drove the ambulance to Ty Cobb Regional Medical Center while EMT’s worked on the baby. From there, the child was airlifted to Egleston.”
The baby was put on life-support at Egleston Children’s Hospital in Atlanta but died several days later.
Thomas said EMT’s determined the baby had severe head injuries.
On Tuesday, Franklin County investigator Mitch Murphy said no details on what caused the baby’s head injuries would be released at this time.
Burtch is being held in the Franklin County Detention Center. Bond had not been set as of late Tuesday.
