The list of qualified candidates for the upcoming elections in Elbert County has been finalized.
Jumping right into a look at the races for the Elbert County Commission seats up for grabs, the race for District 2’s seat will be between Bobby Lee Vaughn (R) and Perry D. Rhodes (D). In District 4, it is incumbent Kenneth Ashworth (R) being challenged by Donnie O’Neal Saddler (D). Finally, in District 5, incumbent Freddie Jones (D) will face off against Zebulon Elbert Worley (R).
Current Commission Chair Russell Tommy Lyon (R) will have no opposition in either the primaries or on Election Day, as no one else qualified for the position.
On to the Board of Education side of things, as there is only one seat being contested and that is in District 3, where incumbent Pamelia Jo Phelps (R) is being challenged by Donald Wayne Ward (R), that race will be decided during the May primary.
District 2 candidate incumbent Ben C. Baker (R) and District 5 candidate incumbent Teresa D. Barnett (D) are both running unopposed this election cycle.
Last but not least, one candidate is running for Magistrate Court, and that is Lanie J. McIntosh Simmons who is running as a democrat and is also running unopposed.
The May primary will be held on May 20th, and the voter registration deadline to be able to vote in the primary is April 21st, 2014.
