Madison, Georgia Man Drowns in South Carolina

Tragedy in South Carolina, as a Madison, GA man is dead after an accidental drowning.

The victim is identified as 64-year-old Ralph Neal Head.

According to a press release from the Oconee County Coroner’s Office, the incident occurred just before 6:00pm Monday evening.

Head, his son, and a friend were canoeing down the Chattooga River, when his canoe apparently overturned; his friend who was down river looked back and observed Head floating in the river in no apparent distress.

The friend recovered the canoe, but then never saw Head again.

He was discovered a short time later; it appeared his legs became entangled in an undercut of rock in the river, and the current had pushed him under water.

A post mortem examination concluded that Mr. Head died as a result of a freshwater drowning, which was classified as accidental.
