Elbert County Sheriff Melvin Andrews says that the traffic stop was conducted on Old Middleton Road.
“The officer observed him weave over the roadway numerous times and then conducted a traffic stop for failure to maintain lane”, explained Sheriff Andrews.
During the stop the driver of the vehicle, identified as 55-year-old Charlie Leverette Jr. of a Pulliam Street address in Elberton, was asked for consent to search his vehicle after the officer conducting the stop noticed some suspicious behavior said Andrews.
“The officer was talking with Mr. Leverette and noticed he was real nervous and fidgety and asked him if there was anything illegal in the car, and then asked for consent to search the car”, said Andrews. “He gave consent to search the car and that is when the drugs were located.”
Leverette was found to be in possession of 6.4 grams of cocaine and 8.7 grams of marijuana.
Leverette is charged with Possession of Cocaine with Intent to Distribute, Possession of Marijuana, Possession of a Schedule III Drug, Drugs Not in Original Container, and Failure to Maintain Lane.
Following his arrest, Leverette was transported to the Elbert County Detention Center.
No word on this time if bond has been posted or set.
