A traffic stop made Monday afternoon by Elbert County Sheriff’s Deputies led to the arrest of a Monroe, Georgia man for an array of charges.
In a press release from Elbert County Sheriff Barry Haston, he said that deputies stopped a vehicle on Elbert Street for weaving over the roadway, and the driver was found to be under the influence of controlled substances.
The driver was identified as 70 year old Robert Earl Roberts of Monroe, Georgia. Through further investigation, deputies discovered that Roberts was in possession of a variety of controlled substances.
Roberts was arrested on a laundry list of charges including driving under the influence of drugs, possession with intent to distribute methamphetamines, possession of marijuana, possession with intent to distribute schedule three drugs and schedule two drugs, use of a communication device to facilitate a drug transaction, and several other traffic offenses.
He was also found to be in possession of a ledger book where he was utilizing multiple Physicians and Pharmacies in various parts of Georgia, as well as in South Carolina.
Roberts was also wanted out of Walton County and Jackson County on outstanding warrants. Further investigation is being conducted by the Elbert County Sheriff’s Office and the Georgia Drug and Narcotics Agency.
Roberts is currently being held in the Elbert County Detention Center.
