New Scam Surfacing in Elbert County

Be on the lookout for a new scam that is beginning to impact Elbert County.

According to a press release from the Elbert County Sheriff’s Office, there is a scam where residents are being called about changing social security numbers.

Elbert County Sheriff Melvin Andrews says it’s someone claiming to work for the Federal Government, who is asking for your social security number.

The Sheriff’s Office advises that under no conditions should you release your social security number, and that if you receive a phone call similar to this one, then you should contact your local law enforcement agency.
