Lavonia and surrounding areas now have a new restaurant.
Earlier this week, a ribbon cutting was held at the new J. Peters Restaurant on SR17 near I-85.
Members of the Lavonia Chamber of Commerce joined other local leaders to welcome the new restaurant.
Lavonia mayor Ralph Owens said he hopes the upscale bar and grille will be the start of more economic development along that stretch of 17.
J Peters owner and manager Jonathon P. Angell said he was persuaded by Pearson to build his sixth restaurant in Lavonia.
“This is Jay’s land and he ate in my restaurant in Anderson,” he said. “And he begged and begged me to come to Lavonia and here I am. Lavonia is a great little city.”
The original J Peters opened in 2010 in downtown Anderson, but since then Angell’s business has grown to six restaurants and two bars throughout the Upstate of South Carolina.
Lavonia is his first Georgia restaurant.
Angell said his eateries are upscale but casual with the kind of food everyone can enjoy.
“We have 36 items and all of them move,” Angell said. “They’re all very good. There’s not huge selection to choose from. We have steaks, seafood, salads and sandwiches. They’re served on one menu all day. So, you can get a hamburger at night, unlike some other places. You can get a salad at night; you can get a steak at night. Everything is very good.”
J Peters Lavonia is now open for business every day from 11a.m. to 10 p.m.
They’re located on Owens Drive behind the Hills’ Exxon and across from the Holiday Inn Express on SR17 in Lavonia.
