After three consecutive months of hosting blood drives in Elbert County, the American Red Cross will not be visiting in the month of July.
The Red Cross was last in Elberton on June 9th at the First Baptist Church of Elberton.
American Red Cross Donor Recruitment Manager Janet Jarrett expressed gratitude to all who participated in that blood drive.
Jarrett continues to stress the fact that the summer months are the toughest for the Red Cross’ blood supply, as a majority of blood donors come from high school and colleges.
Since those students are on summer break, Jarrett says they are heavily relying on local communities to step up and fill the void.
“So when those schools are out or are in short session it’s very difficult to meet the needs of our hospitals. We do need support ongoing throughout the summer”, said Jarrett. “We urge anyone to find a blood drive in their area and attend it if possible.”
The closest blood drive to Elbert County this month is over in Hart County at the Hartwell First United Methodist Church, which will be held on Tuesday, July 22nd.
Jarrett says if you can not attend that drive, then head to the American Red Cross’ website, www.redcrossblood.org, where you can find the closest blood drive by entering your zip code.
You can also find out more about the blood donation process and schedule an appointment at an upcoming blood drive on the site.
