The Elbert County Sheriff’s Office will be hosting a class that will be open to the public called, Concealed Weapon Carry, The Law.
Currently just over sixty people have signed up, but at the current rate, The Sheriff’s Office is expecting close to a hundred people to attend the course.
Elbert County Sheriff Barry Haston advised that there have been several people from the community requesting this class to help them understand what the law is in common sense about carrying a weapon concealed and for protection.
The main focus of the course will be a breakdown of the gun laws as they apply to Georgia covering concealed weapon carry. There will also be a topic of weapon safety and how to safely possess a weapon concealed on ones person, vehicle, and home.
There is no charge for the course and as it stands right now, will be held in the Elbert County Government Complex cafeteria later this month on August 28th at 6:00pm, but due to the high amount of interest in the program, the Sheriff’s Office is considering moving the class into the courtroom.
Sherriff Haston said that this is not the full in depth firearm course that is taught by firearm instructors which will be scheduled in October, but instead will be a smaller scale course that will specifically focus on the law.
The class will last approximately one hour with a question and answer session to follow. For more information, or to register for the class, contact the Elbert County Sheriff’s Department at (706) 283-2421.
