At long last the person responsible for numerous burglaries in Elbert and Hart Counties is behind bars.
According to Investigator Captain Darren Scarborough with the Elbert County Sheriff’s Office, 31-year-old Cedric Armon Rucker of a Hartwell, GA address, is the man responsible for at least seven burglaries in Elbert County.
Rucker also has confessed to at least sixteen burglaries in Hart County, and one burglary each in Franklin and Lincoln Counties.
Scarborough said Rucker was arrested earlier this week by Hart County law enforcement officers during a domestic violence call, and through further investigation into Rucker, they noticed that there was more to the case.
“Began to find some jewelry and they couldn’t explain where the jewelry came from and just one thing led to another and we began to find where he had pawned some jewelry and it just kept getting bigger, bigger, and bigger, says Scarborough.”
Scarborough explained the way that Rucker broke into the numerous homes.
“His MO was, he would go up to the houses knock on the door, nobody came to the door, if there was a doorbell he would ring the door bell and if nobody came to the door he’d just kick the door in. Grab what he could grab and then he would leave. In several burglaries he took guns, but mostly his thing was jewelry, Says Scarborough.”
Rucker is facing seven burglary charges in Elbert County, along with numerous potential Felony Theft by Taking and Felony Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon charges.
Scarborough says that the Elbert County Sheriff’s Office is in the process of recovering some of the stolen items.
“From guns, to jewelry, to TV’s, to what else may have been taken, and as soon as we do, we will get that stuff and get it processed and if the DA tells us to return the stuff back to the victim or he may tell us to hold on to it till it’s time to go back to court. If we do it will be kept up here in the evidence here at the Elbert County’s Sherriff’s Office, says Scarborough.”
Currently, Rucker is being housed at the Hart County Jail, where Scarborough says bond is expected to be denied.
