Work is now underway on nearly five miles of resurfacing work taking place in Athens, Ga.
Construction began last night on State Route 10/US Route 78 through downtown Athens, according to a press release from the Georgia Department of Transportation.
The project consists of roughly five miles of milling, resurfacing, and shoulder rehabilitation on West Broad Street.
Work is expected to take six to eight weeks and will require nightly lane closures from 7:00pm until 6:00am.
Beginning in August, the contractor will also be working every Saturday and Sunday night, as long as weather permits.
Motorists who frequent the area should use extra caution, reduce speed, and be alert to changing traffic conditions in construction areas.
