Lane closures will continue beginning today for the next two weeks on the State Route 10 Loop in Athens at Peter and Olympic Streets for installation of drainage pipes, as per an announcement from the Georgia Department of Transportation.
The lane closures are planned weekdays from 9:00am till 4:00pm on the northbound lane of the outer loop for about one half mile on each side of the Peter/Olympic Streets intersection with the loop.
The work was contracted out to E.R. Snell Contracting Inc. of Snellville, Georgia who is also handling two projects in Elbert County; the resurfacing of State Routes 172 and 368.
Other road work taking place in our area includes resurfacing work on State Route 174 in Franklin County, which begins today if weather allows.
The work will take place along the stretch from US29/SR 8 to State Route 51.
A flagger and pilot vehicle will direct traffic through the work zone daily, and motorists should expect delays when traveling through the area.
Work will occur on weekdays from 8:30am until 4:00pm. No work is scheduled for the weekends.
The project completion date is set for August 31st, 2013.
