The Salvation Army of Elberton held their annual banquet earlier this week to recognize all the efforts put in by volunteers and to introduce the officers and new board members.
During the banquet, Advisory Board Chairperson P Jo Phelps announced what the Elberton branch wants to do in the future.
“We are hoping to buy a new canteen that we can go on our disaster trips with”, said Phelps.
The current canteen assigned to Elberton is a 1999 model, which is reaching the end of its effective life span.
The cost of the new canteen, which is a 20 foot custom unit with a feeding capacity of 2,500 meals a day, comes in just below $200,000.
Sixty percent of the funds will have to be raised by the local branch, while the remaining forty percent will be matched by the Salvation Army Territorial Disaster Fund.
