The Bi-State Savannah River Basin Caucus Meeting, which takes place in Hart County, is coming up later today.
Some big names are expected to be present, as Georgia Governor Nathan Deal and South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley will be in attendance during the meeting.
The purpose of the meeting is for the joint signing of an agreement launching the next portion of the Savannah River Basin Comprehensive Study.
Army Corps of Engineers Public Affairs Specialist Tracy Robillard says the first study was completed in 2006, and explains what the second portion of the study will cover.
“This is actually going to look at the most recent drought from 2007-2009”, said Robillard. “This next portion of the study is going to look at that data and we are going to look at how we can lower releases from the dams during a drought before harm is done to the environment or economy.”
She says that this portion of the study is estimated to take over a year to complete.
The event begins at 10:00am and lasts until 1:00pm at the Big Oaks Recreation Park next to the Hartwell Damn and Lake Visitor Center, that area will be closed to the public during the ceremony.
