Seventh Confirmed Case of Rabies in Elbert County

Another confirmed case of Rabies in Elbert County, making this the seventh confirmed case in 2013.

The most recent incident occurred in the Hartwell Highway area in Elberton, where a skunk that fought with a dog tested positive for the Rabies virus.

According to a press release from the Elbert County Health Department, the incident occurred on September 30th.

Elbert County Animal Control continues to remind Elbert and surrounding county residents that state and local laws require pets to be vaccinated for the virus.

Animal Control also urges people to avoid any animals exhibiting unusual behavior such as aggression or lack of fear of people.

Any incidence of bites from any animal should be reported to Elbert County Animal Control at (706) 283-5054.
