Elbert County Blue Devil Football Spring Game

05/10/2012

This past Thursday night The Granite Bowl held The Blue Devil's Spring Blue vs White contest. Although a fraction of the returning star players did not participate, a great deal of athletic talent was put on display. Blue maintained a lead throughout the  game that eventually lead to their victory. Ultimately Blue triumphed over White 20-13. Some transcending talent from the Blue Devil basketball squad took place including a rushing touchdown from Randy Jones and a stellar jumping catch from Terrell Hughes.

The 2012 season looks very promising for The Blue Devils.

Diamond Devil Season Comes to a Close

05/04/2012

After receiving the number four seed in the state playoffs, Elbert County traveled to Calhoun, GA to face the 16-5 Yellow Jackets. Coach Bruce Evans called upon Trenton Allen as the starting pitcher for the first game of the double header.

In game one Calhoun put 4 runs on the board in their opening at bat by way of an RBI single and a 3-run shot by the Yellow Jackets' star center fielder. Avery White knocked a 3-run homer of his own in the 2nd putting The Devils within one. However, Calhoun added 5 more runs in the bottom half of that inning to gain control. Trenton Allen hit a solo home run in the 3rd and it would be the last of Elbert's offense. The Jackets put the nail on the coffin in the 3rd with another RBI single and grand slam increasing their lead to 10.

The Devils were run ruled after the 5th. Calhoun defeated Elbert in game one 15-4. Elbert did out hit The Jackets 9 to 8, but committed 5 errors in the process. Avery White was named the Sports Connection Player of the Game. White went 2-3 with 3 RBIs.

White took the mound for the second game where the teams switched sides and Elbert became the home team. The Devils lead the contest 1-0 through three innings before Calhoun had an unorthodox 4th inning. The Jackets took the lead 7-1 before Elbert came to the plate and fought back to come within one. In the 5th DJ Johnson picked up his third RBI and tied the game up. After Calhoun scored one in the 6th and five more in the 7th, The Devils were unable to overcome the six run deficit.

Elbert lost the heartbreaking second game of the double header and unfortunately wrapped up their season. Final score: 13-7, Calhoun. DJ Johnson was named the Sports Connection Player of the Game. Johnson went 2-3 with 3 RBIs and a walk.

The Diamond Devils had an amazing season to say the least. Baseball now comes to an end, and although we say goodbye to a good fraction of our roster, next year will be the opportunity for all the underclassmen to shine and show the fans what it means to wear the blue and white.
