The Elbert County MLK Committee is thrilled after another successful MLK Weekend Celebration.
MLK Committee President Mary Clark said it was a great way to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the Elbert County MLK Weekend.
“The entire weekend was just magnificent, and it was our 20th year, and we expected it to be bigger and greater and it exceeded all expectation”, said Clark.
The weekend began with the annual MLK Banquet, where Dr. Winfred Hope of Ebenezer West was the guest speaker. Clark said he delivered a wonderful message.
“He talked about our struggle and where to we go from here. He also touched on our past and present, and the strides we have made”, detailed Clark. “Dr. Hope also talked about the things we had to do to keep progressing as a nation to achieve peace and tranquility.”
The weekend continued with the MLK Parade and Academic Bowl.
Winners for the parade’s float competition were 3rd Place Love in Action, 2nd Place Norman Grove C.M.E. Church, and 1st Place Vance Creek Baptist Church. In the car competition the Class of 1989 took 3rd Place, Rose Hill Baptist Church came in 2nd Place, and New Hope Baptist Church took 1st Prize.
Winners for the MLK Academic Bowl included the Bowman Elementary Alumni in 3rd Place, New Birth Baptist Church in 2nd Place, and Mt. Calvary Baptist Church in 1st Place.
In the oratorical portion of the event, Rodney Fleming placed 3rd, Deldrin Moon came in 2nd, and Ty’Sean Harper took home 1st.
