Only a month and a half removed from the first show of the 2013 theatre season, Encore Productions is getting ready for its next performance at the Elbert Theatre.
Performance dates for, The 39 Steps have been announced, and the show’s director, Toni King talks about what kind of show it is.
“The show is a comedy and a spy-thriller mixed together, and it is an adaptation of Alfred Hitchcock’s classic film, The 39 Steps, which was not a comedy at all”, said King. “We take all of those elements of the thriller and put them in with the funny stuff, mix it all together, and we get our spoof.”
Starring in the play are Trey Rutherford, Samantha Stratton, Gunnar Hartley, and Drew Lunceford.
King says that this type of performance is meant to showcase the talents of her cast.
“These guys are incredibly talented and this show is set up so that it showcases their talent and ability to switch from role to role at a very fast pace”, explains King. “Its going to be a lot of fun, it has been a lot of fun, as we have been cracking up at our rehearsals, so I think people will really enjoy it.”
Opening night for the play is April 12th at 7:30pm. Two more shows follow that weekend on Saturday and Sunday, both at 2:00pm.
King says this is a very enjoyable show, but that the audience members are going to have to do a little legwork themselves.
“This is a very imagination based show, all the scenes and what’s happening on stage is suggested by what the actors are wearing and what they are doing on the stage”, said King. “So you do have to bring your imagination to the show and think outside the box for this one.”
Tickets for the show are ten dollars in advance, and will be fifteen dollars at the door. Tickets are available for eight dollars for students or groups of ten or more.
