In advertisements here at WSGC radio, we asked to help make this year’s Friends Helping Friends Beauty Pageant and Auction the biggest yet, and that goal seems to have been accomplished.
Over the weekend, the third annual Friends Helping Friends Beauty Pageant was held at the Elbert County Middle School Auditorium.
FHF Club Advisor Crystal Thomas said a special treat was in store for the kids participating in the pageant, as some University of Georgia athletes were on hand for the event.
“We had football players Ray Drew, Phil Green, Quincy Marger, and Ken Townsend”, said Thomas. “We also had a couple of UGA volleyball players who were Jasmine Eatman and Kiera Liu. They were able to escort our kids, as well as our own Friends Helping Friends seniors here at the school.”
Thomas said several local businesses and people stepped up big time this year to help make the pageant successful.
She says the kids had a great time, and through all combined efforts, that this was indeed the biggest pageant yet.
“The kids had a good time and that is what it is all about. We had a lot of people in there, and we haven’t gotten the total count on attendance”, explained Thomas. “In all, with ad sales, ticket sales, t-shirt sales, and silent auction; we raised just over fifteen thousand dollars this year.”
According to Thomas, that nearly doubles the amount of money brought in from last year’s pageant, which was just over seven thousand dollars in 2013.
Thomas said the list of names and businesses to thank was incredibly long, and in the interest of not leaving anyone out she and members of the club were extremely grateful for all of those who helped contribute to this year’s pageant.
