Two Brothers Charged in July’s Bowman Double Homicide

September 21, 2012

The Elbert County Sheriff’s Office has issued two murder warrants in connection with a double homicide that occurred in Bowman, Georgia back on July 6th.

Two brothers, Cesar Augusto Suarez and Diego Ernesto Suarez have been charged with murder in connection to the death of Joe Ballew and Lori Phillips.

Elbert County Sheriff Barry Haston said the break in the case came from a similar incident in Oglethorpe County.

“A break came in the case when a body was discovered in a field in Oglethorpe County on August 18th”, explained Sheriff Haston. “Based on evidence collected in this investigation, it was compared with evidence collected from our investigation, and there were significant and conclusive similarities.”

The Suarez brothers are currently being held at the Oglethorpe County Detention Center, where they were arrested in connection with the death of an Oglethorpe man identified as Derrick Johnson.

Sheriff Haston thanked the numerous agencies involved.

“I want to thank Hart, Franklin, and Oglethorpe County Sheriffs Offices, and the GBI for their assistance and working together on this case”, said Haston.

While a motive has been thought to have been established, Sheriff Haston said that he could not elaborate further in that regard.

There is still additional work to be done on this case and Sheriff Haston felt that there would possibly be additional warrants issued.
