Presentations were made last evening to the Elberton City Council by representatives from the Elbert County Chamber of Commerce and the Jim-Ree Museum.
Greg Gunter, Chairman of the Elbert County Chamber of Commerce, gave an update of the chamber’s tourism efforts.
According to Gunter, in the time frame from September 2012 until the end of January 2013, the chamber had 2,691 tourism contacts made.
Jimmy White followed Gunter to talk about the Jim-Ree Museum’s upcoming spring festival.
White was asking for the city’s support in regards to sponsoring the festival. He says that the event does attract tourists.
“As a result of the spring festival last year, is that we saw quite a few tourists at the festival”, said White. “We don’t know how many, but we estimate in the area of five to seven hundred people.”
White is requesting a thousand dollars from the city to help offset the costs of putting on the festival.
