The Elberton City Council is still looking a different expansion options for ElbertonNET.

During the council’s regular meeting on Monday, City Manager Lanier Dunn said they are still evaluating on how to approach the project.

He says they are trying to decide which platform to use before expanding.

“We are comparing the cost of building coax plant, like we have everywhere else, versus a fiber to the home platform”, said Dunn. “The fiber to the home is cheaper in some aspects, such as you don’t have to install the electronics until you actually run the cable to the house.”

The current platform places all the electronics out in the field no matter how many potential customers there are in the area.

Dunn says that since they don’t currently use the Fiber to the Home platform, that it may take some extra time to plan out the expansion.

A decision is expected to be reached within the next sixty days.
