VFW Meeting Scheduled for Tuesday for Veterans Interested in Touring Memorials in DC

October 11, 2013

An important meeting is coming up early next week for Elbert County war veterans.

Taking place at the VFW Post 5456 on Tuesday, October 15th; the meeting will feature a presentation from Douglas Hastings, the Director of the Vets to Washington Project.

The purpose of the project is to send veterans from past wars to Washington, DC to view all the war memorials.

Pat Roberts is a member of the VFW Post 5456, and recently went on one of the trips to DC and said it was a great experience.

“It’s a wonderful trip, and I have been. We went to the WWII Memorial, the Korea Memorial, the Vietnam Memorial, the Roosevelt, the Iwo Jima Memorial, and we went to the Marine Museum”, said Roberts. “I don’t know of anything up there that we didn’t see on my trip, we pretty much saw it all.”

The next excursion is scheduled for April 2014, which leaves plenty of time to plan accordingly for the trip.

Tuesday’s meeting will begin at 6:30pm and will be open to all veterans from past wars, not just from Elbert County, but from the surrounding area as well.

For more information about the upcoming meeting, or the tour itself can contact Roberts at (706) 283-2468.
