Voter Registration Deadline to Vote in May Primaries Less than a Week Away

April 15, 2014

The voter registration deadline to be able to vote in the May 20th Primary Elections is now less than a week away.

Those interested in voting in the primaries have to register to vote by April 21st at 5:00pm.

There is only one contested race taking place in Elbert County and that is for District 3’s seat on the Elbert County Board of Education between incumbent Pamelia Jo Phelps and Donald Wayne Ward, both are running as Republicans.

Controversy has been surrounding that particular race as Ward’s candidacy is being challenged, and a hearing determining Ward’s eligibility was originally scheduled for April 3rd, but was postponed, and at this time a make up hearing has yet to be scheduled.

Absentee Ballot applications are currently being accepted by the Elbert County Registrar’s Office and have already begun being mailed out and will continue being mailed out through May 16th.

Voters needing information about their registration can call the registrar’s office at (706) 283-2012 or can check on the Georgia Secretary of State’s website at www.sos.ga.gov.
